NFCS moves to Ibadan Province

NFCS UNILORIN CHAPTER MOVES FROM KADUNA TO IBADAN ECCECESATIONAL PROVINCE.

 The various chapters of the Nigeria Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) are grouped according to zones, and these zones are within a diocese which must be under one of the Nine Ecclesiastical province.

St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy (STAC) being a chapter under Ilorin diocese falls under the Kaduna Ecclesiastical province together with Archdiocese of Kaduna and dioceses of Kafanchan, Kano, Minna, Sokoto and Zaria. Considering the distance of Ilorin to other northern dioceses the quest to move the diocese of Ilorin from Kaduna to Ibadan increased, during the celebration of the solemnity of the Annuciation of the Lord in the year 2006, the congregation for the Evangelization of peoples acceded to the request of the catholic Bishop`s conference for the transfer of Ilorin diocese from Kaduna to Ibadan Ecclesiastical province. With the approval of this transfer, NFCS Ilorin zone automatically moved from Kaduna province to Ibadan province, but the Executives of Ilorin zone were accepted into the provincial meeting by then provincial chaplain Rev. Fr.Peter Akinola on February 16th 2007 and the zone was officially welcomed into the province during the August 2007 provincial convention at seat of wisdom chaplaincy, university of Ibadan, Oyo state.

It is worthy of note that before the transfer of the diocese of Ilorin from Kaduna province to Ibadan, the NFCS Kaduna Ecclesiastical Provincial Secretariat was at STAC St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Chaplaincy (STAC) with the then chaplain Rev. Fr. Chike G. Oguejiofor (CSSp) as the Provincial Chaplain and three executives were from STAC, university of Ilorin, they are:

  • Cosmos Maha – Provincial President
  • Okoka Darlington – Provincial Secretary
  • Nwaka Gift – Provincial Welfare Secretary 1

Kaduna ArchDiocese –Most Rev.Dr.Yariyok Peter Jatau

Ibadan ArchDiocese  – Most Rev. Dr. Felix Alaba Job

Ilorin Diocese –Most Rev. Dr. Ayo-Maria Atoyebi (OP)
